Company History

Burns Lake Native Development Corporation History

BLNDC was incorporated in 1974. George Brown (BCANSI Local 123), Ted Lowley (Lake Babine Band), Peter John (Burns Lake Band), Abel Peters (Cheslatta Band), Durban Skin (Omenica Band), and Vincent Morice (BCANSI Local 123), each of whom represented the local Aboriginal communities, are recognized as the organization’s Founding Fathers and were the inaugural members of BLNDC’s board of directors.

The incorporation coincided with the start-up of Babine Forest Products Company (BFP), of which BLNDC owns 10.53% between its 6 communities. Over the decades, BLNDC has ventured into many businesses: small business lending, logging, construction, fish farming, machine shop, silviculture, and remanufacturing. Small business lending and logging (wholly-owned Burns Lake Native Logging Ltd.) have endured since the 1974 start.
